chalky blue dragonflies

yesterday, i went swimming in the sea. as i was walking from the station to the beach, i passed a little concrete ditch where a trickle of water was running, draining to the ocean. in the ditch were 5 or 6 blue dragonflies. such simple beauty. their blue was a chalky, light blue with little edges of deep navy--like they had been born from a river of indigo. i climbed over the little fence and sat on the lip of the ditch. dragonflies are so nice because they are not such scared and anti-social insects. they don't fly away in fear of every movement. either that or their eye sight is so bad they can't tell what is a threat. eitherway, they were willing to sit quietly near me sitting quietly. then they would suddenly leap up into the breeze and race down the length of the gully chasing one of the other blue dragonflies.
